An extra booster dose will be offered to all adults aged over 75 years and the most vulnerable people aged above 12 in the UK this spring.

According to UK′s vaccine advisors, an additional jab would help boost their protection against severe COVID-19. Several among the oldest individuals received their latest dose back in the autumn and immunity may be on the decline now. An autumn booster program, targeted at a larger group of people, is also planned this year.

Thus far, only those with severely weakened immune systems were eligible for a fourth vaccine dose. People now being offered a second booster this spring include adults aged 75 years and older, people residing in a care home for older adults, and those aged 12 years and above who are immunosuppressed, or have weakened immune systems.
